Student Tool calculates locally from the values entered. Results are estimates or arithmetic summaries, rather than an interpretation of a school’s complete grading policy.

## Text and reading

Where supported, word, sentence and visible-character counts use Intl.Segmenter for the selected locale. Visible characters are Unicode grapheme clusters; the fallback uses Unicode code points. Blank lines separate paragraphs. Browsers and segmentation rules can disagree on some scripts and abbreviations. Case conversion uses locale-aware letter mapping with simple word or punctuation boundaries, rather than a publication style guide. Reading seconds equal words ÷ words per minute × 60; the word counter uses an explicitly displayed pace of 200 words per minute.

## Grades

GPA equals Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits). The maximum scale is editable from 0.1 to 5; no letter-grade conversion is assumed. Weighted completed-work average equals Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ(weight). Contribution to the final grade equals Σ(score × weight) ÷ 100. Entered weights may total less than 100%, with the remainder shown separately. Required final exam score equals [target − current × (1 − exam weight)] ÷ exam weight, with exam weight expressed as a decimal. It assumes current coursework covers everything outside the final.

## Dates and timing

Study dates are validated as calendar dates independently of local time-zone transitions. The start date is included; the deadline is optional. Selected weekdays and explicit excluded dates determine eligibility. Hours fill the earliest eligible dates up to the daily limit, with any shortfall reported. The focus timer checks a clock deadline rather than counting interval callbacks. It pauses and continues on request and waits for manual action after a session. Browser suspension can delay a sound, and closing the page stops the timer.

Displayed rounding does not change the underlying calculation. Review the [study and writing guides](https://student-tool.app/guides/) for examples, and confirm institutional requirements separately.
